PBI Role Professional Experience Personal Statement

Fedor is a Post Doctoral Researcher, responsible for revisionary studies on Palaearctic Phylini and Orthotylini. He also has charge of curation, geocoding and data entry for collections of Zoological Institute, St. Petersburg.

Fedor first became interested in the systematics of Miridae as an undergraduate student. His masters thesis was made under the guidance of Prof. I. M. Kerzhner and devoted to several genera of Phylini. He then engaged in the study of male genitalia in the Miridae and their significance for suprageneric classification. After receiving his PhD, he became a senior lecturer in the Department of Entomology, St. Petersburg State University. He has taken part in ten field expeditions for collecting true bugs in various districts of Russia and adjacent countries. Currently he is conducting revisionary studies on Phylini at the Zoological Institute, St. Petersburg.

The Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences houses one of the largest Phylinae and Orthotylinae collections in the world. It comprises more than 80 000 specimens, a considerable part of them unmounted and undetermined. I am very glad, that PBI project offers the opportunity to investigate the collection comprehensively and to improve our knowledge of the Palaearctic fauna.
