Dear Mr. Matthew:

Not (?), heard from you this past two or three weeks in New Mexico. I went ahead as I suggested in my last letters and did about two weeks work in the Torrejon and then returned to Chama where I shipped our four buyers of collections and (?) Stein of Wyoming to round up the outfit and start things going. I'm taking three or four days of my vacation with my brother here and shall setup over a day with Thomson at a gate on the way north unless I hear from you of the contrary.

Our Torrejon work was carried on as far west as the West fork of Torrejon Arroyo - where we first struck this fauna in 1896. Every thing east of the countries divide in has been pretty well (?) even now and its a rather simple (?) of any section of this (?) because the manuals are confined and our (?) four, five, and twenty feet thick. In the pocket on Torrejon Arrojo which we worked out so thoroughly in 1896 we found specimens quit abundant again so that thus are good prospect for collecting further west next season. I cataloged 105 specimens from Torrejon and thus are probably 200 or 300 identifiable specimens not categorized. There is quit a bit of skeleton with one Euprotogonia specimen including a good (?) do skull in (?). I fell pretty sure that with another season we can put this fellow on his feet if not now; fortunately there is quit a lot of rib material with the seasons find and I'm sure that the skull jaws except the very front, will (?). An interesting little (?) I am sending you be registered mail. Isn't it new? I think there are other new things, also several specimens which are more (?) than we had before and a fine skull, jaws, and skeleton of a Crocodile. Taking it all in all I think the result for the ten or twelfth day of actual collecting were satisfactory.

One of the four boxes which I have shipped (? in all) contains antique pottery for Sr. Wisslen who asked me particularly (?) of pottery showing design. I would like to turn these over to Sr. Wisslen after I return in the fall and will you kindly have Charley set them aside for me?

I shall hope to hear from you after reaching the Big Horn if not before.

Very Sincerely Yours,

Walter Granger
