Dear. Prof. Osborn:

Herr Markgraf has a very fine skull of Palaemastodon - which I saw yesterday. He found it near his camp while prospecting for parts of an Arsinoitherium jaw.

I could not quite understand from Markgraf's conversation whether if he is employed by us, the material which he obtains before your letter arrives is to go to us or not, but we must have this fine skull. The incisors are missing, also the arches, but otherwise it is nearly perfect.

We have, as new finds, a going Arsinoitherium skull, uncrushed, but with occipal separated at suture and jaw, also somewhat weathered on one side. This skull we shall need shellae for. We also have a good palate of Palaemastodon - it had been a skull but the upper part is weathered away. Both of these specimens were found by David. They are isolated and not far north of Quarry B. Stripping has been occupying our attention in Quarry B for two days now. We shall begin prospecting a little tomorrow.

If we can get a fine adult skull of Arsinoitherium now, with what we may expect from the quarries, and with Markgraf's materials, we shall return with a fairly good collection, I should say.

Fine weather currently. Today has been pay day and no work. Olsen and I went off to the Sebel el Quatrane.

Shall await your reply and Markgraf's letters with interest.

Very respectfully yours,
