  • The field work covered 3 separate expeditions. Dr. Wortman and Mr. Peterson were assisted by Mr. Rafferty in New Mexico and by Mr. Gedney in Dakota. The Puercan explorations were made in the Gallego, Coal Creek, Chaco, Escavada, Blanco and Lorgo Canyons, which lie to the south of the San Juan River. The Laramie on Lance Creek secured 400 mammal teeth, but no dinosaur remains, went to Moreau River in N. Dakota, were Wortman had collected for Cope, but were unsuccessful. The White River traveled to So. Dakota, the south fork of the Cheyenne River and spent 2 months working with great success.
