Lismas Mont.

August 15th 1909

Dear Professor Osborn:

Have just returned from my trip up the Missouri River to the Barb Hills. Found them to be the extreme western border of the Laramie deposit formed of Pierre, Fox Hills at base with fifty to one hundred feet of basal sandstone on top. Apparently this represents the former border of the Laramie flood plain and has not changed appreciably by demulation. Bones are numerous but always isolated and badly fractured before fossilization. This will finish the north side of the river and I will not pull over there.

Found some very interesting fossil Crustaceans in the Pierre, securing several genera that are new.

Peter has about one weeks work on the Triceratops then we will box it and haul to the station and if nothing else turns up move to Seven Blackfoot and Calf Creek.

Rains continue to be frequent and the temperature ranged above 100 all of last week with humidity almost equal that of New York. Have never experienced such a summer in Montana.

Very Sincerely Yours,

Barnum Brown
