Dear Prof. Osborn:

Your cablegram came out to our western camp yesterday. There is just one spot left in here which we have not yet examined yet and I shall spend the next three days there and then go in to Cairo.

This place is the large "Lyons Butte" where you and Ferrar tried to locate Beadnell's quarry (Western bone pits). Markgraf found his fine Arsinoitherium skull here (the one which was broken), also another inferior one so I feel that we ought not to leave without making effort here, especially as the weather yesterday and today has been much cooler - the best this month. I moved up to Lyon's Butte last night and the camels return to Tamia today and will be out again on the 25th. Allah smiled very faintly on us at the camp - a fair turtle, a good (?) skull and a fair pair of Moeritherium jaws with P2-3 and M1-3r. and M2-3l. with symplyis angles pretty well preserved.

This cooler weather makes us feel more hopeful but I should say that the chances of a skull, now, are rather small. Herr Markgraf has already returned to (?), so the Arabs tell me. He has written you I believe.

The terrible May (?) that we have been hearing about appear to have been lost this year - the Englishmen have all told me that we might expect one a week, on an average, but the only one we have seen was on April 19th.

It is a very pleasant thought to realize that we are going back home now. This will be the best fun we have had yet. I shall attempt to look until we reach Cairo. We have choice of either of the German lines from Naples and so can probably get a very satisfactory sailing. Ferrar is to go to Alexandria with us to look after our boxes, for the Dept.

I interpret the word "immediately" in your telegram to mean as soon as my judgement warrants and hope that my staying here these extra few days will be all right.

Your reports of the laboratory work are very interesting to us. We shall be glad to join in the work.

Our regards to Mr. Herman and all in the laboratory.

With regard and respect

Very sincerely yours

Walter Granger
