Dear Prof. Osborn

It gave me great pleasure to receive your letter and my only regret is that my self-enforced absence from Cairo will prevent the possibility of my making your personal acquaintance. Any of my former colleagues who may be in Cairo will however I am sure do everything that is possible to make your stay in Egypt a pleasant one. Only a part of my collection is as set in the Cairo museum, a large number of the most interesting specimens have been sent to the British Museum for detailed study and comparison.

If you should go to the Fayum you will easily find your way about with the aid of the maps in my report. If I may presume to offer advice the latter would be excavate likely places quickly with a large gang of men. Comparatively little can be done unless arrangements to dip on a fairly big scale are made. You will find camping out in the Fayum desert at this time of year very delightful, though one should be prepared for very cold weather.

I only wish I were in a position to give you some assistance in your proposed collecting but I must content myself with wishing you every success.

Very sincerely yours
