My dear Brown.

I have just telegramed you to weit [sic] near Miles City until we can arrange about the freight car, a matter which requires time. I hope we shall get positive word in regard to the car in the course of a few days. I am trying to arrange to have a car which starts with some collections made by Stone at Seattle stop over at Miles City and take on our fossils. Can you arrange to have the fossils carefully and safely placed on this car?
Mr. Wilbur has heard from Mr. Kelly that he is ill in the Ogden hospital, and Mr. Wilbur agrees that it will be impossible to visit the locality this season. The visit may, therfore, be postponed until next spring.
In the meantime do the best you can in the way of prospecting, so as not to lose time.

Yours sincerely,
[Osborn]

Mr. Barnum Brown

My Dear Prof Osborn:-

Following your instructions I left fossils at Miles City boxed, addressed and numbered in charge of Mr. M.S. Maples a lumber merchant to whom I gave minute instructions regarding the handling.
I felt safe in leaving them with him for he is a man interested in our work having visited the department in the Museum and I feel sure they will be loaded with all possible care.
Did not receive your message till this morning when it was forwarded from Miles City. If you think advisable I can return to Miles and load car though I believe it perfectly safe in Mr. Maples charge.
Have just met the Squaw man who lives fifty miles from here in the Crow Reservation on where place these large Dinosaur bones were found. He says there are lots of them there and tells of digging out about twelve feet of one the rest remaining in the bank.
Has kindly offered me accomodations at his place so that I shall side there in the morning.
Met Mr. Douglas of Carnegie Museum here who ships fossils colelcted in Tertiary this summer from this place. He reports a good seasons work in Mountains shipping about four thousand of material.
Have learned that Dr. Sieland made Billing his base of operations part of this summer working on the north side of river. No one seems to have examined the Jurassic Dinosaur country or the Reservation so I am in hopes of finding something worth while.
I enclose receipt of fossils from Mr. Maples also list of contents and weight of boxes of fossils.
Shall be back to Billings in lesss than a week, probably four days if nothing turns up of interest.
I trust I have done as you would wish

Sincerely yours
Barnum Brown.
