October 1, 1902
Dear Brown.
I was very glad to learn from Lull of the continuous progress of the work, and of the promising character of the large skull and of the large Carnivore. I trust ere this you have duly received my letters and that I shall soon get a reply.
In the meantime the money you desire has been forwarded to you, and I trust you are again in funds.
I will try to arrange for a free through car to the East, especially if you get more material. Would it be safe to send a platform car? Lull tells me the skull will not enter an ordinary freight car.
It is important for you to arrange to visit the locality of the large Jurassic Dinosaur located for us by Mr. R. T. Willbut of Duncan Hall, Chapel Street, New Haven, Connecticut [sic]. Dr. Matthew had had an interview with him and thinks the prospect is well worth examining. As it is now the first of October you cannot work very much later, it will be well to attend to this at once. This is a very kind act upon Mr. Wiluburs part, and I trust you will sshow [sic] your appreciation to his partner.
Lull starts in at work at once.
Gidley reports a fine discovery in the line of fossil horses, the remains of a small herd. The work is also going well at the Bone Cabin Quarry. So we are promised a scucessful season after all.
Yours sincerely,
[Prof. Osborn]

Mr dear Prof Osborn,
Your letter of Sept 11th received: Prof Lull has by this time told you the seasons work up to the time he left.
Since that time I have been striking it rich in the upper Lignite horizons in which I have ffound four crocodile skeletons representing two different forms one without plates and one with plates.
I am unable to tell how complete any of them are for they are all disassociated but on which lies in position ribs attaches to vertebrae. There is a skull with each specimen. I have moved camp and am located near Williams ranch twenty miles north of Jordan. Shall work here while material turns out such fine specimens unless I receive different instructions from you in this mail and then follow original plan of prospecting up the musselshell.
Weather remains fine for good work cool and exhilerating and I hope to wind up the season with a good catch besides those already reprinted.
I enclose letter which must have been placed in envelope with mine through mistake.
Sincerely yours,
Barnum Brown
