Camp on Hell Creek Montana
July 21st 1902
My Dear Prof. Osborn:-
We have been particulary fortunate during the last week in finding a Sterrholophus skull in fairly good conditon which with a little repairing will make a beautiful exhibition specimens.
The base of skull, full and upper dentition is in fine condtion. Rostrum detached and fairly well preserved base of horn cases and part of frontal region in postion. This portion was in soft sand and partly exposed consequently very soft. The skull is nearly six feet long presenting characters quite different from tye.
Left lower jaw is complete also. Tibula while there is part of a front leg, humerus, radius and part of foot in poor condition.
The Triceratops quarry is turning out a good many ribs and the bones mentioned in last letter are not so badly crushed as I thought.
This is virgin soil and there is a vast area to be worked while we have only touched it on one side of Hell Creek.
I have written to Dr. Matthew of our success advising him to come if not successful in the Tertiary.
Prof. Lull and I make a good team while Brooks is a willing lad whom I hope to make a collector.
Will consume rest of find during next two weeks.
I enclose list of supplies which you will kindly give to Mr. hermann to be shipped by express.
Direct letters to Jordan P. O. where we get our mail once a week.
Hoping this news gives you the pleasure it does me to write it.
I am
Sincerely yours
Barnum Brown
