Mr Dear Dr. Matthew:-
Since writing you last, I have been rather fortunate in locating a Sterrholophus skull in fairly good condition, basal portion in fine condition not crushed. Front very punchy and have not yet uncovered it but top of horn case gone. Specimen is in soft sand with only a few inches of sand covering it consequently very tender but will be able to make a fine exhibition specimens of it. There is also with this specimen a beautiful lower jaw and a ver sick front leg, possibly still more this bank. The other two specimens are coming out fine and will send a load of bones into miles in about ten days.
If you are not finding much in the tertiary I should think it advisable to try the Laramie coming down the Musselshell but it would be best to have a base nearer to scribward if possible. There is a world of country in these breaks and we have only barely touched it. In the main bad lands moreover we can not expect to find much the best ground is in the heard of the tributaries where they cut through the sand stratum.
Let me hear from you soon.
Sincerely yours
Barnum Brown
