It is my duty as a scientist to transmit my knowledge and experience to the future generation of scientists, as well as the general public. As a Puerto Rican, I am particularly interested in working towards widening the participation of underrepresented minorities in the physical sciences.
I mainly work with the Hayden Astrophysics Enrichment and Research Program in the AMNH Education Department. This program provides academic support and growth for New York City public school students from low-income communities through lectures, field trips, hands-on activities, inquiry-based learning, and research projects. I collaborate with the director of the program in creating the astrophysics and computer programming curriculum, hands-on activities and resarch projects. We are currently building a small radio telescope on top of Federick Douglas Academy High School in Harlem, which will be used by students conducting their research projects. |
