Visiting the Collections
Requesting an Appointment
The collections of the Department of Mammalogy are open to researchers and students. Requests to visit the collection should be made at least two weeks in advance by emailing a completed Visitor Registration Form to mammvisits@amnh.org. Each individual requesting access must submit a separate form. If you are a returning visitor, you must still submit a form for each new visit. Be sure to include a brief description of activities to be conducted in the collection, taxa to be examined, and proposed dates for the visit.
Applications from students must be accompanied by a letter of support from the student's academic advisor. The letter of support should include a brief description of the student's project. It should also include a statement about the student's prior experience working with museum specimens.
Visitor Guidelines
Please review the Visitor Guidelines before your visit.
Making molds of specimens is considered potentially destructive. Visitors wishing to make molds must submit a destructive sampling request. Please see the page on destructive sampling for more information.
