Rana kobai Matsui, 2011, Curr. Herpetol., Kyoto, 30: 122. Holotype: KUHE 12823, by original designation. Type locality: "Kinsakubaru, Amami-shi (former Sumiyo-son), Amamioshima Is., Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan (28° 21′ N, 129° 27′ E, 300 m asl)".

English Names

Ryukyu Brown Frog (Maeda and Matsui, 1990, Frogs Toads Japan, Ed. 2: 55; Goris and Maeda, 2004, Guide Amph. Rept. Japan: 80 [based on Rana ulma and Rana kobai, then thought to be Rana okinavana]).

Distribution

Known only from Amamioshima Is., Kakeromajima Is., and Tokunoshima Is. of the Amami Island group, central Ryukyus, Japan.

Confused with Rana ulma (as Rana okinavana) until recently; see comment under Rana ulma.
