Comment

In the Rana narina complex according to the original publication. Presumably equivalent to the "Amami giant-type" of Rana narina hypothesized by Nishioka, Ueda, and Sumida, 1987, Sci. Rep. Lab. Amph. Biol. Hiroshima Univ., 9: 261-303, to be a species distinct from Rana narina. Goris and Maeda, 2004, Guide Amph. Rept. Japan: 60-61, provided an account, map, and photograph. See photograph, map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status (as Rana amamiensis) in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 500.
