Comment

In the Rana tarahumarae group of Hillis, Frost, and Webb, 1984, Copeia, 1984: 398-403, Rana pustulosa group of Dubois, 1987 "1986", Alytes, 5: 42. In equivalent subgenus Zweifelia of Dubois, 1992, Bull. Mens. Soc. Linn. Lyon, 61: 331. Old extralimital records are based on Rana tarahumarae and Rana sierramadrensis. Hillis, Frost, and Frost, 1983, J. Herpetol., 17: 72-73, misapplied the name Rana trilobata to (former) Rana sinaloae. See accounts by Zweifel, 1968, Cat. Am. Amph. Rept., 66: 1-2; Webb, 1988, Occas. Pap. Mus. Texas Tech Univ., 121: 1-15, and Webb, 2001, Mesoam. Herpetol.: 23-26. Rendón Suárez, Mercado-Silva, Palomera García, and Iñiguez Dávalos, 2016, Southwest. Nat., 61: 241–273 provided records from the Marabasco Basin of the Jalisco–Colima border region.
