A tetraploid species in the Xenopus andrei group according to the original publication. Evans, Carter, Greenbaum, Gvoždík, Kelley, McLaughlin, Pauwels, Portik, Stanley, Tinsley, Tobias, and Blackburn, 2015, PLoS One, 10(12): e0142823: 24, provided a range map and Rep. Congo locality as part of a revision of the species. Dewynter and Frétey, 2019, Cah. Fondation Biotope, 27: 35, summarized the literature for Gabon (for Xenopus cf parafraseri) and provided photographs (p. 63). Channing and Rödel, 2019, Field Guide Frogs & Other Amph. Afr.: 46–47, provided a brief account, photograph, and range map.
