Phrynobatrachus steindachneri Nieden, 1910, Arch. Naturgesch., 76: 241. Syntypes: ZMB (28 specimens, originally) and MCZ 19577 (presumably exchanged from ZMB), according to A.G.C. Grandison in Frost, 1985, Amph. Species World: 450. ZMB 20429 designated lectotype by Zimkus and Gvoždík, 2013, Zool. Scripta, 42: 601. Type locality: "Banjo", Cameroon; corrected to "Banyo", 200 km ENE Bamenda, Adamawa Province, Cameroon, by Amiet, 1971 "1970", Ann. Fac. Sci. Cameroun, 5: 93.

Distribution

Northeastern part of the highlands making up the Cameroon Volcanic Line, including the Bamenda-Banso Highlands (Mount Oku and Mount Mbam), the Adamawa Plateau and Tchabal Mbabo in Cameroon, as well as the Mambilla Plateau in Nigeria.
