Phrynobatrachus keniensis Barbour and Loveridge, 1928, Proc. New England Zool. Club, 10: 89. Holotype: MCZ 3479, by original designation. Type locality: "a marsh on the northeast slope of Mt. Kenya, Kenya Colony [= Kenya]".

Upland meadows (below 3000 m) of Kenya (Mounts Kikuyu, Molo, Kinangop, and Kenya) and Mount Meru, Tanzania.
