High-gradient streams in the hilly forested parts of West Africa in Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Guinea.  


Possibly distinct from other Petropedetes according to J. L. Amiet In Perret, 1984, Bull. Soc. Neuchatel. Sci. Nat., 107: 167. Rödel and Bangoura, 2004, Tropical Zool., 17: 210, provided brief comments about specimens from Guinea. Biol., 15(67): 1-16, provided molecular evidence that this nominal taxon is composed of at least 5 species of which 4 are unnamed. Barej, Schmitz, Penner, Doumbia, Sandberger-Loua, Hirschfeld, Brede, Emmrich, Kouamé, Hillers, Gonwouo, Nopper, Adeba, Bangoura, Gage, Anderson, and Rödel, 2015, Zoosyst. Evol., 91: 115–149, named these species and revised this species and restricted its range.
