Microhyla sholigari Dutta and Ray, 2000, Hamadryad, 25: 39. Holotype: ZSIC A9061, by original designation. Type locality: "Bhargavi stream bed near Doddasampige (12° 27′ N; 76° 11′ E, Biligirirangan Hills, Chamrajanagar District, Yelandur Taluk, Karnataka State, south-western India".

English Names

Sholiga Chorus Frog (Dinesh, Radhakrishnan, Deepak, and Kulkarni, 2023, Fauna India Checklist, vers. 5.0 : 8).

Distribution

Throughout much of Karnataka State, from the vicinity of Bengaluru west on the uplift of the Western Ghat to Kundaari Betti and south to Waynad Wildlife Sanctuary, presumably to be found in adjacent Kerala, south-western India, 600 to 1800 m elevation. Biju, 2001, Occas. Publ. Indian Soc. Conserv. Biol., 1: 9, noted the presence of this species in Kerala. See photograph, map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 453. Das and Dutta, 2007, Hamadryad, 31: 154–181, noted no larval descriptions in the literature. A very brief characterization, photograph, and dot map (which excluded Kerala, possibly meaningfully) provided by Subramanian, Dinesh, and Radhakrishnan, 2013, Atlas of Endemic Amph. W. Ghats: 70. Seshadri, Priti, Ravikanth, Vidisha, Vineeth, Singal, Sarma, and Gururaja, 2016, Zootaxa, 4208: 547–560, redescribed the species, provided a number o range extensions, and reported on the advertisement call.  In the Microhyla zeylanica species group of Garg, Suyesh, Das, Jiang, Wijayathilaka, Amarasinghe, Alhadi, Vineeth, Aravind, Senevirathne, Meegaskumbura, and Biju, 2018 "2019", Vert. Zool., Senckenberg, 69: 1–71. Ganesh and Arumugam, 2016, Russ. J. Herpetol., 23: 10, briefly discussed specimens (as Microhyla cf. sholigari) from the Jawadi Hills.Tamil Nadu, India. Gorin, Solovyeva, Hasan, Okamiya, Karunarathna, Pawangkhanant, de Silva, Juthong, Milto, Nguyen, Suwannapoom, Haas, Bickford, Das, and Poyarkov, 2020, PeerJ, 8 (e9411): 1–47, placed this species in their Microhyla superciliaris group.
