Myersiella Carvalho, 1954
Myersiella Carvalho, 1954, Occas. Pap. Mus. Zool. Univ. Michigan, 555: 16. Type species: Engystoma subnigrum Miranda-Ribeiro, 1920 (= Engystoma microps Duméril and Bibron, 1841), by original designation.
Elongated Frogs (Frank and Ramus, 1995, Compl. Guide Scient. Common Names Amph. Rept. World: 91).
As for the single species.
Probably derived from Elachistocleis according to Carvalho, 1954, Occas. Pap. Mus. Zool. Univ. Michigan, 555: 17. See Nelson and Lescure, 1975, Herpetologica, 31: 391, for a review of the genus and of its single species. Formerly in the New World component of Microhylinae; Frost, Grant, Faivovich, Bain, Haas, Haddad, de Sá, Channing, Wilkinson, Donnellan, Raxworthy, Campbell, Blotto, Moler, Drewes, Nussbaum, Lynch, Green, and Wheeler, 2006, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 297: 225, did not address this taxon in their study, and they removed Myersiella from any subfamily pending resolution of its phylogenetic placement. van der Meijden, Vences, Hoegg, Boistel, Channing, and Meyer, 2007, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 44: 1017-1030, did not address this taxon. Pyron and Wiens, 2011, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 61: 543-583, assigned this taxon to Gastrophryninae without comment. Trueb, Diaz, and Blackburn, 2011, Phyllomedusa, 10: 99-135. cited unpublished data of Greenbaum, 2006, Unpubl. PhD Dissert., Univ. Kansas, as evidence of the placement of this genus in Gastrophryninae. de Sá, Streicher, Sekonyela, Forlani, Loader, Greenbaum, Richards, and Haddad, 2012, BMC Evol. Biol., 12(241): 1-21, placed Myersiella within Gastrophryninae on the basis of molecular data.
