Distribution

Rondônia, southern Amazonas, and the western two-thirds of Mato Grosso, northern Tocantins to eastern Pará, and Maranhão, Brazil; presumably to be found in adjacent northeastern Bolivia.

Confused with Elachistocleis ovalis prior to its naming according to the original publication. Strüssmann, Campos, Dorado-Rodrigues, Almeida, Toledo, Hoogmoed, and Valadão, 2012, Check List, 8: 317-320, provided a geographic range map and discussed the range. Meneghelli and Calderon, 2017 "2016", Herpetol.
