Chiasmocleis shudikarensis Dunn, 1949, Am. Mus. Novit., 1419: 7. Holotype: AMNH 43674, by original designation. Type locality: "Shudikar-wau, upper Essequibo River, British Guiana [=Guyana] (not far from Brazilian border)".

Guiana Shield in Guyana, Surinam, French Guiana, and Brazil (north of the Amazon River in Amapá, Amazonas, Pará, and Roraima).


De la Riva, Köhler, Lötters, and Reichle, 2000, Rev. Esp. Herpetol., 14: 58, and Köhler, 2000, Bonn. Zool. Monogr., 48: 69, consider this species possibly to occur in Bolivia. Lescure and Marty, 2000, Collect. Patrimoines Nat., Paris, 45: 268-269, provided a photo and brief account for French Guiana, and noted that this species may be conspecific with Chiasmocleis ventrimaculata. Zimmerman and Rodrigues, 1990, in Gentry (ed.), Four Neotropical Rainforests: 426–454, provided the first central Brazilan Amazonia record for this species, near Manaus. Peloso and Sturaro, 2008, Zootaxa, 1947: 50, reported considerable morphological variation among populations suggestive of cryptic species.
