Sphenophryne cornuta Peters and Doria, 1878, Ann. Mus. Civ. Stor. Nat. Genova, 13: 430. Holotype: MSNG 29479, according to Capocaccia, 1957, Ann. Mus. Civ. Stor. Nat. Genova, Ser. 3, 69: 220. Type locality: "prope flumen Wa Samson Novae Guinea borealis" (= near the Wa Samson River in Northern New Guinea), Vogelkop Peninsula, Papua, Indonesia.

Chaperina ceratophthalmus Van Kampen, 1909, Nova Guinea, 9: 43. Syntypes: ZMA 5777 (Geitenkamp) and ZMA 5779 (Resi Peak), according to Van Tuijl, 1995, Bull. Zool. Mus. Univ. Amsterdam, 14: 127. Type locality: Noord Fluss bei Geitenkamp" (= Lorentz River, near Geitenkamp) and "Resi-Gipfel" (= Resi Peak), Papua (New Guinea), Indonesia. Synonymy by Parker, 1934, Monogr. Frogs Fam. Distribution

Recorded over much of New Guinea, from Vogelkop Peninsula (Papua, Indonesia) to the vicinity of Port Moresby (Papua New Guinea) on the south coast and to the Adelbert Mountains (Papua New Guinea) in the north coast ranges.
