Leptodactylus colombiensis Heyer, 1994, Smithson. Contrib. Zool., 546: 82. Holotype: ICN 7409, by original designation. Type locality: "Colombia; Santander; Charalá, Virolín (= Inspección Policía Cañaverales), confluencia del Río Cañaverales con el Río Guillermo, vertiente occidental, 1600-1700 m, 6°13′N, 73°05′W".

Distribution

Caribbean drainages on the eastern Andean slopes in Colombia and nearby adjacent Venezuela (Táchira state) (see comment); possibly from Araracuara, Amazonas, Colombia.

In the Leptodactylus wagneri-Leptodactylus podicipinus complex, according to the original publication. See Barrio-Amorós and Chacón-Ortiz, 2001, Herpetol. Rev., 32: 55, for Venezuelan record. In the Leptodactylus melanonotus species group of de Sá, Grant, Camargo, Heyer, Ponssa, and Stanley, 2014, S. Am. J. Herpetol., 9(Spec. Issue 1): 1–123, and who provided a summary of relevant literature (adult and larval morphology, identification, advertisement call, and range) on pp. 71–72, and suggested that the Venezuelan record needs verification. Palacio Baena, Muñoz Escobar, Gallo Delgado, and Rivera-Correa, 2006, Anfibios y Reptiles del Valle de Aburrá: 84–86, provided a brief account and photograph. Guarnizo, Paz, Muñoz-Ortiz, Flechas-Hernández, Méndez-Narváez, and Crawford, 2016, PLoS One, 10(5: e0127312): 1–20, suggested on the basis of molecular evidence that two species likely exist in Colombia under this binomial. Acosta-Galvis, 2017, Biota Colomb., 18: 282–315, reported the species from the Municipality of Yopal, Casanare Department, Colombia. Ovalle-Pacheco, Camacho-Rozo, and Arroyo, 2019, Check List, 15: 398, reported the species from Boyacá, Colombia, and commented on the range in Colombia.
