Hydrolaetare caparu Jansen, Gonzales-Álvarez, and Köhler, 2007, J. Herpetol., 41: 725. Holotype: MNKA 8302, by original designation. Type locality: "Caparú Ranch (14° 48.795′ S, 61° 09.602′ W; 158 m), Provincia Velasco, Department of Santa Cruz, Bolivia".

Northern to southern Rondônia, Brazil, south into eastern Bolivia.

External morphology and advertisement call were detailed in the original publication. Jansen, Bloch, Schulze, and Pfenninger, 2011, Zool. Scripta, 40: 567-583, reported on genetic variation. Ferrão, Fraga, Simões, and Lima, 2014, Salamandra, 50: 77–84, discussed the range and habitat.
