Adenomera cotuba Carvalho and Giaretta, 2013, Zootaxa, 3731: 535. Holotype: AAG-UFU 1400, by original designation. Type locality: "the Municipality of Teresina de Goiás (13° 52′ S, 47° 15′ W; approximately 840 m a.s.l.), northern State of Goiás, central Brazil".

Known from type locality Teresina de Goiás, Uruaçu, and Goiânia, Goiás state, western and southern state of Tocantins, São Desidério municipality, Bahia state, Brazil.

The original publication covered external morphology and advertisement call. Oliveira, Freitas, Lima, Pires, and De-Carvalho, 2018, Herpetol. Rev., 49: 69. Silva, Carvalho, Pereira Silva, Fadel, Dantas, Brandão, and Santana, 2020, Biota Neotrop., 20 (1: e20190838): 15, reported the species from the state of Tocantins, Brazil, and detailed the known range. Vaz-Silva, Maciel, Nomura, Morais, Guerra Batista, Santos, Andrade, Oliveira, Brandão, and Bastos, 2020, Guia Ident. Anf. Goiás e Dist. Fed. Brasil Central: 103–104, provided an account.
