Mus. Wien, 9: 29; NHMW 4329.1 designated lectotype by Cassini, Cruz, and Caramaschi, 2010, Zootaxa, 2491: 6. Type locality: "Carytiba im Walde am Boden", Brazil.

Physalaemus personatus Steindachner, 1864, Verh. Zool. Bot. Ges. Wien, 14: 279. Name attributed to Fitzinger, and coined in synonymy of Nattereria lateristriga.
