Hyperolius poweri Loveridge, 1938, Proc. Biol. Soc. Washington, 51: 213. Holotype: MCZ 23110, by original designation. Type locality: "vicinity of the Umvoti River, near Stranger [= Stanger], [KwaZulu-]Natal, Union of South Africa".

Distribution

Southeastern coast of South Africa (northeasternmost East Cape Province and KwaZulu-Natal); expected in Eswatini and southernmost Mozambique.

Removed from the synonymy of Hyperolius acuticeps (now considered a synonym of Hyperolius microps) by Pickersgill, 2007, Frog Search: 353, where it had been considered by Channing, Moyer, and Burger, 2002, Afr. Zool., 37: 95. Bishop, 2004, in Minter et al. (eds.), Atlas Frogs S. Afr. Lesotho and Swaziland: 136, Pickersgill, 2007, Frog Search: 350-353, and Du Preez and Carruthers, 2009, Compl. Guide Frogs S. Afr.: 240-241, provided accounts (as Hyperolus acuticeps in the sense of including Hyperolius poweri). See comments under Hyperolius microps (with reference to the literature of nominal Hyperolius acuticeps). Channing, Hillers, Lötters, Rödel, Schick, Conradie, Rödder, Mercurio, Wagner, Dehling, Du Preez, Kielgast, and Burger, 2013, Zootaxa, 3620: 335-336, provided an account and redelimited the species. Phaka, Netherlands, Kruger, and Du Preez, 2017, Bilingual Field Guide Frogs Zululand: 43, provided a photograph, Zululand regional map, and a brief account of life history and identification. Dehling and Sinsch, 2019, Zool. Anz., 280: 65–77, considered this to be in the Hyperolius nasutus group. Channing and Rödel, 2019, Field Guide Frogs & Other Amph.
