Southern Bahia through Minas Gerais to Rio de Janeiro to São Paulo, Brazil.

Placed in the Scinax ruber group by Pombal, Haddad, and Kasahara, 1995, J. Herpetol., 29: 5. The Scinax ruber group rejected as nonmonophyletic by Faivovich, 2002, Cladistics, 18: 367-393. In the Scinax ruber clade, unassigned to group, of Faivovich, Haddad, Garcia, Frost, Campbell, and Wheeler, 2005, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 294: 97. Hartmann, 2002, Herpetol. Rev., 33: 222, provided the São Paulo record and commented on the distribution. Canelas and Bertoluci, 2007, Iheringia, Zool., 97: 21-26, provided a record for the Serra do Caraça, southern end of the Serra do Espinhaço, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Magrini, Carvalho-e-Silva, Béda, and Giaretta, 2011, Zootaxa, 3066: 37-51, reported on the call. Novaes and Zina, 2016, Zootaxa, 4084: 258–266, reported on the advertisement call. Mângia, Carvalho, Pereira, Cavalcanti, Simões, and Santana, 2017, Herpetol.
