Comment

See distributional comments by Gorzula and Señaris, 1999 "1998", Scient. Guaianae, 8: 49-50. Barrio-Amorós, 1999 "1998", Acta Biol. Venezuelica, 18: 38, commented on the range. Myers and Donnelly, 2008, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 308: 60-67, discussed specimens from Auyantepui, Venezuela. Kok, MacCulloch, Means, Roelants, Van Bocxlaer, and Bossuyt, 2012, Curr. Biol., 22: R589-R590, implied that this name covers more than one species. Jungfer, Faivovich, Padial, Castroviejo-Fisher, Lyra, Berneck, Iglesias, Kok, MacCulloch, Rodrigues, Verdade, Torres-Gastello, Chaparro, Valdujo, Reichle, Moravec, Gvoždík, Gagliardi-Urrutia, Ernst, De la Riva, Means, Lima, Señaris, Wheeler, and Haddad, 2013, Zool. Scripta, 42: 351-380, confirmed this on the basis of their own analyses. This cryptic associate is now Tepuihyla obscura. Señaris, Lampo, Rojas-Runjaic, and Barrio-Amorós, 2014, Guía Ilust. Anf. Parque Nac. Canaima: 192–193, provided a photograph and a brief account for the Parque Nacional de Canaima, Venezuela. Forti, Foratto, Márquez, Pereira, and Toledo, 2018, PeerJ, 6(e4813): 1–19, characterized the advertisement call. Salerno, Señaris, Rojas-Runjaic, and Cannatella, 2015, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 82: 314–323, reported on the molecular phylogenetics of the populations of this species and suggested that cryptic species may be recognizable. See Barrio-Amorós, Rojas-Runjaic, and Señaris, 2019, Amph. Rept. Conserv., 13 (1: e180): 77, for comments on range, systematics, and literature, noting that records from the Chimanta Massif correspond to Tepuihyla obscuraSeñaris and Rojas-Runjaic, 2020, in Rull and Carnaval (eds.), Neotrop. Divers. Patterns Process.: 571–632, commented on range and conservation status in the Venezuelan Guayana.
