Nyctimantis rugiceps Boulenger, 1882, Cat. Batr. Sal. Coll. Brit. Mus., Ed. 2: 422. Syntypes: BMNH 80.12.5.152 (Ecuador), 80.12.5.163-164 (3 specimens) (Canelos) (although 4 specimens noted in original publication as coming from this location). Type localities: "Ecuador" and "Canelos", Pastaza, Ecuador.

Distribution

Known only from widely separated localities in Amazonian Colombia (Amazonas and Putumayo departments), Ecuador, and Peru; presumably to be found in adjacent Brazil.

For discussion see Duellman and Trueb, 1976, Occas. Pap. Mus. Nat. Hist. Univ. Kansas, 58: 1-14. R.I. Crombie (person. commun.) notes MZUSP specimens from Peru. Lynch, 2005, Rev. Acad. Colomb. Cienc. Exact. Fis. Nat., 29: 58-588, reported this species from the region of Leticia, Amazonas, Colombia. Pérez-Villota, Anganoy-Criollo, and Betancourth-Cundar, 2009, Check List, 5: 270-272, provided a specific locality from the municipality of Orito, Putumayo Department, Colombia.
