In Hylini and resurrected from the synonymy of Hyla by Faivovich, Haddad, Garcia, Frost, Campbell, and Wheeler, 2005, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 294: 100 (for the former Hyla sumichrasti group and part of the former Hyla miotympanum group), where Exerodonta had been placed by by implication of Duellman and Hoyt, 1961, Copeia, 1961: 414-417 (synonymy of Exerodonta with Hyla), and explicitly by Gorham, 1974, Checklist World Amph.: 93. Formerly considered a synonym of Hylella by Boulenger, 1882, Cat. Batr. Sal. Coll. Brit. Mus., Ed. 2: 419. Köhler, 2011, Amph. Cent. Am.: 227–228, provided a brief summary of natural history for the species of Central America, compared with with other species of hylids from that region, and provided an identification key, range maps, and photographs.
