In the Hyla circumdata group according to the original publication. In the Bokermannohyla circumdata group of Faivovich, Haddad, Garcia, Frost, Campbell, and Wheeler, 2005, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 294: 82-83. The record from Bahia, Brazil, by Orrico and Solé, 2008, Herpetol. Rev., 39: 361-362, was rejected by Napoli, Encarnação, Cunha, Abreu, and Herrera, 2011, Herpetol. Notes, 4: 105-109, as being based on Bokermannohyla circumdata. Pezzuti, Santos, Martins, Leite, Garcia, and Faivovich, 2015, Zootaxa, 4048: 151–173, reported on larval morphology.
