Type locality: "'near Finca La Lulera', vereda el Llano, Departamento del Tolima, Municipio de Falan, Cordillera Central of Colombia, elevation 1852 m above sea level (5° 01′ 08″ N, 75° 02′ 31″ W)". Incorrect original spelling of species name.

Known only from the type locality on the eastern slope of the Cordillera Oriental in the Municipio de Falan, Departamento de Tolima, Colombia, 1852 m elevation.

Related to Ranitomeya abdita, Ranitomeya bombetes, Ranitomeya opisthomelas, and Ranitomeya virolinensis according to the original publication.
