Reviewed by Izecksohn, 1988, Rev. Brasil. Biol., 48: 59-74, who suggested (as did Giaretta and Sawaya, 1998, Copeia, 1998: 987) that Euparkerella might be most closely related to Brachycephalus (see comment under Brachycephalus). See comment under Adelophryne. Provisional association of this genus with Holoadeninae by Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 99, on the basis of its morphological similarity to Holoaden. Hepp, Carvalho-e-Silva, Carvalho-e-Silva, and Folly, 2015, Zootaxa, 3973: 251–270, provided a key to the species in the genus and discussed accoustic differences among the species. Fusinatto, Alexandrino, Haddad, Brunes, Rocha, and Sequeira, 2013, PLoS One, 8(11: e79504): 1–12, reported on cryptic diversity.
