Last revised by Barrio, 1968, Physis, Buenos Aires, 27: 445-454, and Barrio, 1968, Physis, Buenos Aires, 28: 95-106. Brusquetti and Lavilla, 2006, Cuad. Herpetol., 9: 207–227, suggested that Lepidobatrachus laevis is the sister taxon of Lepidobatrachus llanensis. Springer and Schalk, 2016, Cat. Am. Amph. Rept., 904: 1–16, provided an extensive literature review.
