Comment

Brown, 1952, Bull. Mus. Comp. Zool., 107: 50-53, regarded this taxon as a subspecies of Platymantis papuensis. Menzies, 1982, Brit. J. Herpetol., 6: 236–240, regarded it as a distinct species. See account by Brown, 1952, Bull. Mus. Comp. Zool., 107: 50–53, Menzies, 2006, Frogs New Guinea & Solomon Is.: 99, and Pikacha, Morrison, and Richards, 2008, Frogs Solomon Islands: 53–54. Pikacha, Morrison, and Richards, 2008, Frogs Solomon Islands: 54–56, provided an account for an undescribed species, similar to Platymantis weberi, from Barora Faa Island, Solomon Islands under the name Squeaking Ground Frog. Wiens, Sukumaran, Pyron, and Brown, 2009, Evolution, 63: 1217–1231, suggested that Platymantis weberi is more closely related to Discodeles than to other nominal Platymantis.
