Distribution

Eastern Brazil from Minas Gerais and Espíritu Santo in the Serra Bonita to northern Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina; northeastern Argentina; likely into adjacent southeastern Paraguay.

In the Hyalinobatrachium parvulum group, according to Ruiz-Carranza and Lynch, 1991, Lozania, 57: 1–30. Cisneros-Heredia and McDiarmid, 2007, Zootaxa, 1572: 82, excluded this species from Hyalinobatrachium. Zucchetti and Castroviejo-Fisher, 2024, Zootaxa, 5415:: 351–391, reported on molecular markers, comparative morphology, and advertisement calls to support their synonymy of Vitreorana uranoscopa with Vitreorana parvula. 

Comment from former Vitreorana uranoscopa (now in synonymy): In the Hyalinobatrachium parvulum group, according to Ruiz-Carranza and Lynch, 1991, Lozania, 57: 1–30. Duellman, 1993, Univ. Kansas Mus. Nat. Hist. Spec. Publ., 21: 52, suggested that the specimens from Argentina (Contreras, 1982, Hist. Nat., Corrientes, 2: 191) need to be confirmed. Contreras, 1982, Hist. Nat., Corrientes, 2: 191, as Centrolenella vanzolinii, and Stetson, 2001 "2000", Cuad. Herpetol., 14: 167, provided Argentinian records.
