Type locality: "Neu-Granada"; subsequently stated by Schmidt, 1858, Denkschr. Akad. Wiss. Wien, Math. Naturwiss. Kl., 14: 254, as "Neu-Granada, Provinz Veragua" in error according to Savage, 1969, Copeia, 1969: 178-179, who suggested that the type came from Bolivia or Peru. Neotype from "Marcapata Valley, E. Distribution

Southeastern Peru and the departments of Cochabamba, Chuquisaca, La Paz, and Santa Cruz, Bolivia, between 1300 and 1900 m, in interandean valleys and the Amazonian versant.
