In the Bufo peltocephalus group according to the original publication; in Peltophryne, therefore, by implication. Díaz and Cádiz, 2008, Guía Taxon. Anf. Cuba: 1-294, provided an account, as Bufo florentinoiHenderson and Powell, 2009, Nat. Hist. Rept. Amph. W. Indies: 27, summarized the natural history literature (as Bufo florentinoi). Alonso, Hernández, and Rodriguez, 2010, Amphibia-Reptilia, 31: 265–272, reported on the advertisement call. Rivalta González, Rodríguez Schettino, Mancina, and Iturriaga, 2014, Smithson.
