Distribution

West Africa from southwestern Nigeria to Equatorial Guinea and Gabon, also Bioko (Equatorial Guinea) and northeastern Dem. Rep. Congo.

Frétey and Blanc, 2001, Bull. Soc. Zool. France, 126: 380, reported this species from Gabon. Schiøtz, 1963, Vidensk. Medd. Dansk Naturhist. Foren., 125: 22, provided records for Nigeria. Onadeko and Rödel, 2009, Salamandra, 45: 1-14, provided records for southwestern Nigeria. Channing, Rödel, and Channing, 2012, Tadpoles of Africa: 148–150, reported on comparative tadpole morphology.
