Comment

A triploid lineage considered a distinct species of hybrid origin by Betto-Colliard, Sermier, Litvinchuk, Perrin, and Stöck, 2015, Heredity, 114: 301. Stöck, Lamatsch, Steinlein, Epplen, Grosse, Hock, Klapperstück, Lampert, Scheer, Schmid, and Schartl, 2002, Nature Genetics, 30: 325-328, provided cytogenetic details for Bufo pseudoraddei baturae. See comment under Bufotes pseudoraddei for additional relevant literature. See localities in Afghanistan and comments by Wagner, Bauer, Leviton, Wilms, and Böhme, 2016, Proc. California Acad. Sci., Ser. 4, 63: 463–464. See discussion and map by Ficetola and Stöck, 2016, J. Biogeograph., 43: 703–715. A triploid hybrid species (Bufotes turanensis X Bufotes latastii) according to Dufresnes, Mazepa, Jablonski, Oliveira, Wenseleers, Shabanov, Auer, Ernst, Koch, Ramírez-Chaves, Mulder, Simonovo, Tiutenko, Kryvokhyzhar, Wennekes, Zinenko, Korshunov, Al-Johany, Peregontsev, Masroor, Betto-Colliard, Denoël, Borkin, Skorinov, Pasynkova, Mazanaeva, Rosanov, Dubey, and Litvinchuk, 2019, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 141: 1–25, who summarized its biogeography and evolutionary history. Rais, Ahmed, Sajjad, Akram, Saeed, Hamid, and Abid, 2021, ZooKeys, 1062: 157–175, included this species in an identification key to the amphibian species of Pakistan as well as providing a photograph. Kidov, Ivolga, Kondratova, and Kidova, 2023, Curr. Stud. Herpetol., Saratov, 23: 27–35, provided a morphometric comparison of the triploid Bufotes baturae with the diploid Bufotes pewzowi
