Atelopus subornatus Werner, 1899, Verh. Zool. Bot. Ges. Wien, 49: 475. Syntypes: Originall in ZIUG; now ZFMK 28104-05 (Fusagsuga) and 28106 (Sibaté), according to Böhme and Bischoff, 1984, Bonn. Zool. Monogr., 19: 178; ZFMK 28104 designated lectotype by Lötters, 1989, Salamandra, 25: 281-290. Type localities: "Alto von Sibaté bei Bogatá, 2800 m" and "Ueber Fusagasuga bei Bogotá, 2300 m"; restricted by lectotype designation to Fusagasugá near Bogotá, 2300 m, Colombia.

Distribution

Humid montane forest in the Municipalities of Sibaté and Fusagasuga on the western versant of the Cordillera Oriental in Cundinamarca, Colombia, 2300-2800 m elevation.

Removed from the synonymy of Atelopus ignescens by Lynch, 1986, J. Herpetol., 20: 126, where it had been placed by Boulenger, 1900, Zool. Rec., 36: 28. Lynch and Renjifo, 2001, Guia Anf. Rept.
