Atelopus palmatus Andersson, 1945, Ark. Zool., 37A(2): 12. Syntypes: NHRM 1908 (5 specimens) according to D.C. Cannatella IN Frost, 1985, Amph. Species World: 32. Type locality: "Rio Pastaza, 1000 m", eastern Ecuador.

Distribution

Eastern Ecuador (Napo and Pastaza provinces), between 1150 and 1740 m in humid montane forest.

In the Atelopus flavescens group of Lynch, 1993, Alytes, 11: 77-87. For accounts and discussion see Peters, 1973, Smithson. Contrib. Zool., 145: 38-39, and Rivero, 1969, Mem. Soc. Cienc. Nat. La Salle, 29: 142-145. Lötters, Haas, Schick, and Böhme, 2002, Salamandra, 38: 166, regarded this taxon as a likely junior synonym of Atelopus planispina. Almendáriz C. and Galvis-Peñuela, 2005, in Rueda-Almonacid et al. (eds.), Ranas Arlequines: 129, provided a brief account, photograph, and map. Yánez-Muñoz, Veintimilla, Smith, Altamirano-Benavides, and Franklin, 2011 "2010", Avanc. Cienc. Ingen., Quito, Secc. B,, 2 (3): B74-B77, reported on new populations and conservation status.
