Breviceps branchi Channing, 2012, Zootaxa, 3381: 63. Holotype: ZMB 77781, by original designation. Type locality: "at the gate to the diamond security area 600 m west of the Holgat River bridge that carries traffic from Port Nolloth to Alexander Bay in Namaqualand, South Africa, . . . , 28° 55′ 58.4″ S; 16° 46′ 08.9″ E.".

Most similar to Breviceps namaquensis according to the original publication. In the Breviceps gibbosus group of Nielsen, Daniels, Conradie, Heinicke, and Noonan, 2018, J. Biogeograph., 45: 2067–2079, who reported on molecular phylogenetics and biogeography. Channing and Rödel, 2019, Field Guide Frogs & Other Amph. Afr.: 116–117, provided a brief account, photograph, and range map.
