Low elevations in coastal southern Sinaloa (Concordia municipality) and Nayarit and the Tres Marias Is., Mexico.

In the Eleutherodactylus (Syrrhophus) modestus group of the Eleutherodactylus longipes series, of Hedges, 1989, in Woods (ed.), Biogeograph. W. Indies: 318-319. In the Eleutherodactylus (Syrrhophus) modestus group according to Lynch and Duellman, 1997, Univ. Kansas Mus. Nat. Hist. Spec. Publ., 23: 229. In the Eleutherodactylus (Syrrhophus) longipes species series, Eleutherodactylus modestus species group of Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 91, and of Padial, Grant, and Frost, 2014, Zootaxa, 3825: 131. Nolasco Luna, López Luna, Cupul Magaña, and Escobedo Galván, 2016, Cienc. Mar., 20 (58): 29–33, reported the species from María Cleofas in the Tres Marías Islands, Nayarit, Mexico. Grünwald, Reyes-Velasco, Franz-Chávez, Morales-Flores, Ahumada-Carrillo, Jones, and Boissinot, 2018, Mesoam. Herpetol., 5: 54–55, discussed the diagnostic and call differences of this species from Eleutherodactylus teretistes. Loc-Barragán, Franz-Chávez, Grünwald, and Grünwald, 2020, Herpetol. Rev., 51: 532, provided a record for southern Sinaloa, Mexico. In the Eleutherodactylus (Syrrhophus) modestus clade of Hernández-Austria, García-Vázquez, Grünwald, and Parra-Olea, 2022, Syst. Biodiversity, 20 (1: 2014597): 1–20, who reported on molecular phylogenetics.  Found on Isla María Madre, María Cleofas, and María Magdalena in the Tres Marias Archipelago of Nayarit, Mexico, according to Nolasco Luna, Barraza-Soltero, López-Montes, Moreno-López, and Escobedo Galván, 2022, Check List, 18: 244.
