In the Eleutherodactylus (Eleutherodactylus) conspicillatus series, Eleutherodactylus devillei group, likely the sister species of Eleutherodacylus vertebralis, according to the original publication. In the Pristimantis (Pristimantis) devillei species group of Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 121. In the reformulated Pristimantis devillei species group of Padial, Grant, and Frost, 2014, Zootaxa, 3825: 126.
