Likely related to Eleutherodactylus deinops according to the original publication. Rueda-Martínez and Rueda-Almonacid, 2004, in Rueda-Almonacid et al. (eds.), Libro Rojo Anf. Colombia: 260-264, provided an account and map. In the Pristimantis (Pristimantis) unistrigatus species group of Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 128. Not assignable to a species group according to Padial, Grant, and Frost, 2014, Zootaxa, 3825: 128.
